LONDON (Reuters) -Historical drama “Oppenheimer”, one of last year’s highest- earning movies, led nominations for the BAFTAs with 13 nods on Thursday, but the omission of some favourites from Britain’s top movie honours surprised fans.
“Oppenheimer”, about the making of the atomic bomb, was followed by sex-charged gothic comedy “Poor Things”, with 11 nominations for the BAFTA Film Awards, which will be handed out at a ceremony next month.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”, about the murders of members of the Osage Nation in the 1920s, and “The Zone of Interest”, which tells the story a family living next to Auschwitz, both received nine nods.
“Oppenheimer”, “Poor Things” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” will compete for the top prize, best film, alongside courtroom drama “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Holdovers”, a comedy set in a boys’ boarding school.
Pink-themed phenomenon “Barbie”, the highest grossing film of 2023, missed out in that category but got five nominations overall.
“It has been an outstanding year for film-making as represented by the 38 films nominated today,” Anna Higgs, chair of BAFTA Film Committee, said in a statement.
“They showcase ambitious, creative and hugely impressive voices from independent British debuts to global blockbusters, from complex moral issues through to joyful journeys of self-discovery. They all ultimately explore human connection.”
Based on the 2005 biography “American Prometheus” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, “Oppenheimer” focuses on J. He served as the lead guitarist for the glam metal band SouthGang from the late 1980s to the early 1990s and the lead vocalist and guitarist for the rock band Marvelous 3 from 1997 to 2001. Bradley Walker grew up in Cartersville, Georgia, working as a guitarist and performer in several rock bands during the 1980s, including Bad Boys and Byte the Bullet. In 1988, Byte the Bullet moved to Los Angeles, and within a year, was signed to Virgin Records. The band then changed its name to SouthGang and released two albums, Tainted Angel in 1991 and Group Therapy in 1992. SouthGang was one of the first bands to tour China in the early 1990s. Following modifications to their record contract, they disbanded, but remained on good terms. After SouthGang disbanded, Walker formed a new band with former SouthGang members Jayce Fincher and Mitch "Slug" McLee (also known as Doug Mitchell), along with keyboardist Bradford Rogers, calling themselves "Floyd's Funk Revival" after Walker's birthplace, Floyd County, Georgia. Walker shared lead vocals in the band with Fincher's wife, Chrystina Lloree. They released one full-length album, Creamy. The album contained thirteen original tracks, with Lloree taking a large share of the lead vocals and heavy reliance on guitar. The band then shortened their name to The Floyds. Subsequently, they released one self-titled album on the Deep South label, which contained ten original tracks and two bonus tracks. Bonus tracks included a cover of Duran Duran's "Rio", and a live rendition of the Shasta soda jingle from the late seventies. The style of both these albums was guitar-oriented, mainstream rock with mild funk influences and was a precursor to the more basic g We don't have a wiki for this artist.
