Prince Eric is the deuteragonist of Disney's 1989 animated feature film The Little Mermaid. He is a young, dashing prince of a seaside kingdom with a passion for sailing the high seas. During one of his voyages, Eric is rescued by a mysterious girl after nearly drowning during a storm. Grateful for her heroism, and enchanted by her beautiful voice, Eric immediately falls in love with his rescuer and becomes determined to find and marry her.
The character is based on the "prince" character of Hans Christian Andersen's story The Little Mermaid but adapted by writer Roger Allers for Disney's film.
Background[]
Despite being of royalty, Eric is an accomplished mariner who is often seen partaking in various duties aboard ships in his own fleet. Eric is a skilled helmsman as he is seen steering ships in both the 1989 film and its sequel. This could be due to the fact that Eric's kingdom is coastal and most of the subjects make their livings by shipping and fishing, and as such, it is expected that the rulers be skilled in maritime trades. Eric spends much of his free time out at sea, fishing, going on explorations, or even taking the sail to celebrate his birthday. Grimsby, his servant and personal confidant, often accompanies him on his voyages and disapproves of Eric's stubbornness and lack of interest in potential wives.
Personality[]
Eric is a hopeless romantic and appears to be quite dreamy, believing his true love certainly exists, but simply hasn't been found by the earliest points of the film. After being rescued by a mysterious girl with a beautiful voice, he immediately falls in love with

Snow White was 14 when Prince Florian was 31... 👀
Author: Anna Sky MagliolaPublished 8th Feb 2023Pretty much everyone grew up watching Disney films, whether it was Snow White, or Frozen, but when you watched it, did you think about the age gaps between some of the most famous couples in the films? Well, the age differences between some of our most beloved Disney characters became a talking point following an infographic posted on Reddit.
Posted by StoryIQDataStories, the pic revealed some interesting information - with the biggest age gap being between 14-year-old Snow White, and 31-year-old Prince Florian (with the caveat that some of the ages have been estimated).
The age differences between Disney couples:
Snow White and Prince Florian
These two have by far the biggest - and most questionable - age gap. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White meets a handsome prince after he overhears her singing in the woods. When she's poisoned by her evil stepmother, the Prince comes along and kisses her to wake her up. Snow White was thought to be 14 in the film, and the Prince was 31.
Hercules and Meg
The next biggest age gap is between Hercules and Meg, with Hercules thought to be 18 and Meg 28 in the 1997 film. Although Meg continually rejects Hercules throughout the film, she relents at the end!
Linguini and Collette
Chef Linguini is thought to be about 19, and Collette is thought to be 26!
Rapunzel and Flynn Rider
This couple from Tangled are thought to have an eight-year age gap, with Rapunzel being 18 and Flynn being 26.
Cinderella and Prince Charming
The Reddit post estimated that Cinderella was 19 and Prince Charming was 21, so not as much of an age gap between these two!
Tiana and Prince Naveen
Tiana and Naveen were also thought to be 19 and 21 in The Princess and the Frog.
