Michael Cole (July 3, – December 10, ) was an American actor best known for his role as Pete Cochran on the television crime drama The Mod Squad (–).

Early life

Cole was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on July 3, In a Sept 10, video interview, Michael said he slept under a freeway bridge when he first arrived in Hollywood. Later on, a huge Mod Squad billboard happened to be erected on the same freeway bridge, where Michael had once camped below.

Career

Cole appeared in numerous films and television shows, beginning in with a role in the film drama Forbid Them Not. His other film credits include the role of Mark in the science fiction film The Bubble, later re-titled Fantastic Invasion of Planet Earth; Spivey in the western Chuka (); Alan Miller in The Last Child (), that was nominated for the Best Movie Made for TV Golden Globe Award in ; and as Cliff Norris in Beg, Borrow or Steal (). He did a great deal of stage work after The Mod Squad went off the air, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Cole also appeared on Gunsmoke, in , as Kipp. During the s, he had many guest appearances on Wonder Woman,The Love Boat? and CHiPs, and in appeared in the made-for-TV thriller Evening in Byzantium . In the s and s, he worked on Nickel Mountain. He also worked on shows such as The Eddie Capra Mysteries; Murder, She Wrote;Fantasy Island, and Diagnosis: Murder.     Coulthard began his career in journalism in for CBS Radio before being hired by the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in (WWF was renamed WWE in ). He has performed multiple on-screen hosting and commentary roles across his two-decade-plus-long career.

    Early life and education

    Sean Michael Coulthard was born on December 8, , in Syracuse, New York. He attended the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, graduating in with a B.A. in broadcast journalism.

    Coulthard began his career in the media as a journalist, working for CBS Radio. His first high-profile assignment was to cover the US presidential campaign of Democratic Party nominee Michael Dukakis. In , he reported on the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton. He also covered the day siege at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, in , and the following year, spent nine months covering the Yugoslavian civil war.     Cole came to the World Wrestling Federation in mid and started using the stage name "Michael Cole." He became the host of LiveWire show alongside Jim Cornette. Coulthard debuted at SummerSlam, and replaced Todd Pettengill as a backstage interviewer, who left the WWF after the event. In late , Cole became one of the three announcers for the first hour of Monday Night Raw, alongside Jim Ross and Kevin Kelly. Eventually Cole was permanently replaced by Jerry Lawler later in the year. In , Cole became the regular play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Raw subbing for Jim Ross when Ross was devastated by Bell's palsy.

    When the promotion's new SmackDown! television program debuted later that year, Cole was chosen to be the show's play-by-play announcer. Originally his broadcast partner was Jerry "The King" Lawler, but when Lawler briefly left the WWF, he was replaced by Cole's

    Cole was married three times and divorced twice. He had two children from his first marriage, and a daughter from the second marriage. Cole married Shelley Funes in Funes helped stage an intervention for Cole's alcoholism, and he remained sober afterward.
