Your football career doesn’t define the majority of your life. It’s only a tiny piece of who you are. For Charles Tillman, that adjustment to life outside the game after playing in the NFL for 13 seasons has been seamless — well, for the most part.
The most crucial aspect that’s dramatically changed for Tillman - in a positive way - has been his life as a father and husband. In his mind, this is the true definition of his success. His life is his family and what he can do for them.
It isn’t easy, but above all, for Tillman, it’s enriching.
Now, when Tillman’s not talking about the game of football that defined his life for years on the airwaves, he’s at home being “Mr. Mom,” doing as much as he can whenever possible.
I asked Tillman about the meaning of his legacy to him, the common defining factor between the two Super Bowl teams he played on, for his advice for the current Bears, and most importantly: to reflect on his new, exhilarating life as a father and man at home.

What has this Dad 2.0 Summit has meant to you? How have you adjusted as a father in family life since your football career came to an end?
Yeah, obviously, I retired in July. This is my first year out. Huge adjustment, significant change. You know, I work for FOX, but during the week, I’m home. I’m “Mr. Mom.” I’m taking the kids to school, and I’m picking them up. I’m the Dad Uber. I’m the “DU-ber.” I’m taking them to places, running their errands from horseback riding to gymnastics to dance to tutoring.
With Dove Men+Care, the message we try to send out is that today we draw real strength and fulfillment from our roles as caring fathers and men, caring for our kids and letting people know, “it’s okay to do all these things you think a woman would do.”
I love taking my kids around and being their hero and being their “soccer dad,” if you want to call it that. I know I’m their hero because I’m doing all the little things in helping them out. That’s the extraordi It's remarkable to think that she's still so young, and yet Simone Biles is already regarded as the greatest gymnast of all time. And the twists and turns have also shown up in the love department over the last few years. The Olympian first met Green Bay Packers strong safety, Jonathan Owens, on the dating app Raya back in 2020. One thing led to another, and the couple have since tied the knot. And it seems like one wedding wasn't enough. They first signed marriage papers at a Texas courthouse before having the real ceremony in Cabo San Lucas. Despite their busy schedules, this sports power couple looks amazing together. San Francisco 49ers' George Kittle isn't the only half in his relationship who knows his way around a ball. The tight end met his wife Claire back in college. And it was just a matter of time before he became enamored by both her charm and her basketball skills. Why do we say this? Because she played for the University of Iowa's women's team back in 2012. It was just a matter of time before the college sweethearts took their love to the next level. As Kittle's fame rose, so did their love, and the couple finally exchanged vows in 2019. We think we know who's the bigger name in this relationship. While Travis Kelce certainly sells a lot of jerseys, it was his girlfriend Taylor Swift who helped NFL viewership skyrocket. The iconic pop star started to attend many of the tight end's games for the Kansas City Chiefs, which both the NFL and NBC capitalize on through their social media channels. In fact, a Chiefs-Jets game that Swift was at became the most-watched Sunday-night show since Super Bowl LVII, raking in 27 million viewers! And it goes both ways. Kelce absolutely loved going to some of Swift's tours during her Eras To Yeah because you didn’t really know what to expect. Every coach has a theme and they have a way that they practice so it took a few days to get used to how he likes his practices to go. Just his big dumb smile! I’ll miss just being around the locker room and listening to him, hearing him laugh and the jokes we’d play on one another. Just his overall presence I’ll miss for sure. I have several. To give you a short version, Lance Briggs is the only guy I’ll warm up with. I won’t warm up with anybody else. He’s the only one because we’ve done it for so long, we’ve been doing it since ’04. Even if one of us is injured you’re still at the game so you still have to warm that person up. It’s the routine. Living in Europe I traveled a lot. I went to the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City and saw Michelangelo’s depiction of “The Last Judgment” and it just completely blew my mind. It’s so cool to see it in person because it’s this massive wall of art so to think this guy did this way back when and the anatomy of how he drew it is completely mind-blowing. When I saw it in person I thought, “I gotta get that,” so on the right side it shows the hell side and there’s demons and skeletons and the devil and then on the other side you have Apostle Paul, Jesus and everything [showing heaven]. I want to add on up here to the chest on the heavens side but I gotta find a good portrait tattoo artist. I’m the strict one. I’m definitely the strict one.
