Valy Hedjasi is an Afghan pop singer. Professionally, he just goes by the name Valy.

Born in Mashad, Iran, on May 29 1986, Valy is from a family of musicians. He grew up in Heidelberg, Germany, where his parents, both from Herat, encouraged him into music. At a young age he learned to play several different instruments. Valy was classically trained in Indian, Arabic and Persian music. Later, Valy studied with the famous Afghan musician Nasrat Parsa. Valy’s first hit single was “Bia Tu” which garnered him immense fame in Afghanistan and Iran, as well as Farsi speaking diasporas living elsewhere. He released his first album, After Love, to much acclaim, with the Iranian record label Avang, produced by renowned producer Kostas Karagiozidis (known mostly for his work with the Iranian singer, Afshin). After the release, Valy went on tour, holding concerts in Canada and the United States. Valy has since set up his own charity, for children, called the Valy Foundation. His second album, Crazy in Love, was released in 2011.

He has gained recognition since his first two singles Delama Shekoondi and Bia Tu were released from his album After Love. His third single Qatanghani has received fame as well. His forthcoming single is Dokhtar-e Kabuli and his album After Love was released in October 2007

Life
Valy was born in Mashhad, Iran on May 29, 1986. His father is originally from Herat, Afghanistan, and his mother is of both Afghan and Iranian descent. When Valy was still young, his family left Iran and moved to Heidelberg, Germany where he spent his childhood. He was interested in music from his early years, and as both his parents were musicians as well, they taught him early on. In addition to his parents, various artists from Afghanistan and Iran also contributed to his upbringing as a singer. This was also the first time that he came in contact with Avang Music, an Iranian-American record label. One singer who taught and influenced Valy was the late Nasrat Parsa. As he was educated by these various musicians, he not only learned many different styles of music, but also became more aware of his of his identity, culture and heritage.

By 2006, Valy became well-known as a singer, and by 2007, he released his first album, After Love. He appeared in numerous television interviews and his fanbase grew. Following the release of his first album, he went on his first tour (December 21, 2007 – January 5, 2008), in which he visited Canada and the United States. His second tour, which started on May 11, 2008, included visits to various European countries, Australia, the U.S., and nations in Asia. His latest song, Setareh (Sitara), is a mix of Persian and Pashto.

Valy (persisch ), mit vollem Namen Valy Hedjasi (* 29. Mai1986 in Maschhad, Iran), ist ein Popmusiker aus Afghanistan, der in Heidelberg aufwuchs.

Biographie

Seine Eltern, beide Künstler und Musiker, stammen aus Herat in Afghanistan. Mit sieben Jahren spielte er traditionelle Instrumente. Später wurde er in indischer, arabischer und persischer Musik unterrichtet. Zu seinen Lehrern zählen der verstorbene afghanische Musiker Nasrat Parsa, der ihn in klassischer indischer Musik unterrichtete, und Bassam Ayoub.

Noch vor der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Albums, welches vom iranischen Plattenlabel Avang veröffentlicht wurde, wurde Valy durch die beiden Singles Bia Tu und Delamo Shekoondi bei Afghanen und Iranern bekannt. Seit der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Albums After Love 2007 gilt er als einer der erfolgreichsten afghanischen Musiker, und als einer von sehr wenigen, die auch im benachbarten Iran große Bekanntheit erlangten. Das Album wurde produziert von Kostas Karagiozidis, der auch mehrere Alben des iranischen Sängers Afshin produzierte.

Kurz nach Veröffentlichung seines ersten Albums begab sich Valy auf seine erste Tournee (Bia Tu Tour). Sie umfasste fünf Konzerte in Kanada und den USA.

Für seinen Erfolg wurde Valy bei den Noor TV Awards 2008 als Best Artist of the Year gekürt. Im Mai 2008 erschien Valy auf dem Titelblatt des Sitara Magazine.

Bei einem Auftritt in Kalifornien im Rahmen der Nawroz 2008 Celebration gab Valy die Gründung der Valy Foundation bekannt, deren Zweck in der wohltätigen Unterstützung der Kinder Afghanistans liegt.

Bei den beiden Liedveröffentlichungen Setara und Don - Larsha Nangarhar Tasang er auch einige Strophen auf Pashto.

Valys zweites Album Crazy in Love wurde 2011 veröffentlicht.
