  • Sachin Tendulkar: India cricket legend to act in biopic

Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to play himself in a film being made on his life.

A Mumbai-based production house told the BBC that the biopic will be directed by award-winning British director James Erskine.

"It will be mostly about his personal life since his cricketing career is well known," a company spokesman said.

Tendulkar retired from all forms of cricket in 2013 with an unparalleled record of 100 international centuries.

He has also been awarded the Bharat Ratna (The Jewel of India) - the country's highest civilian honour - and was nominated to the upper house of India's parliament.

The as yet-unnamed film on Tendulkar's life is expected to be "between 90 minutes and two hours" and "we are aiming to release it by the end of this year or early next year", Krishna Ananthan of the production company 200NotOut told the BBC.

"Shooting for the film has been going on for the past year and we aim to continue filming through the year," he added.

The film is aimed at Tendulkar's fans all over the world and the makers of the film say they expect it will be watched globally by "people who like him and follow him".

Asked to comment on the cricketer's acting skills, Mr Ananthan said: "He is not acting, he's just playing himself."

Tendulkar played in 664 international matches, scored 34,357 runs and made 100 centuries.

In 2008, he became the highest run-scorer in Test cricket, passing West Indian Brian Lara's then-record of 11,953 runs.

Tendulkar who? asks British Airways, gets trolled on Twitter

MUMBAI: India roasted British Airwayson Twitter Friday after a tweet from the airline's official account asked cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, his full name, when he complained of lost luggage.

Earlier in the day, Tendulkar expressed his dissatisfaction on the social networking site over what he called "BAd service" by the airline, also a pun on its acronym.

"Angry Disappointed and Frustrated. #BAdserviceBA Family Member's Waitlisted ticket not confirmed despite seats being available" he tweeted.

"And luggage being tagged by @British_Airways to wrong destination and don't care attitude! #NeveronBA" said his second tweet.

The post was retweeted or shared more than two thousand times. Tendulkar, arguably one the of the best players in world cricket history, enjoys God-like status in India where the game is somewhat of a national obsession.

Trouble started when an hour after Tendulkar's tweet, BA tried to address his concerns: "We're sorry to hear this Sachin, could you please DM (direct message) us your baggage ref(erence), full name and address so we can look into this for you?"

This led to a long spate of trolling of the carrier on the site, with emotions that ranged from disbelief and irritation to mild and in some cases bitter sarcasm. In the afternoon, the airline was the fifth most trending topic on the side.

"Did British Airways just ask for God's address? You will go to hell" said one tweet.

Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja tweeted "British Airways Didn't Just Lose Sachin's Luggage, They Lost 1 Billion People's Heart By Disrespecting Him,"

"First Kohinoor, now Sachin Tendulkar. Always a problem between British and Bharat Ratnas," posted Ramesh Srivats.

Many renewed jibes on Maria Sharapova, the world no. 3 tennis player who in an interview last year said she did not know Tendulkar, inviting similar social media wrath from his fans in India.

"It seems Maria Sharapova is running British Airways

Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the most impeccable batsman to ever walk on a cricket field. He may not have the near-perfect average of Sir Don Bradman or the swagger of Sir Viv Richards but Tendulkar did what even the greats of the game couldn't. The Mumbaikar made his debut on November 15 in 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi and the rest, as they say, is history. He went on to represent India for the next 24 years and shatter all records possible and set some that still remain. Incidentally, November 15 was also the last day he represented India on the field. His last game came against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in 2013. The 45-year-old ended with 34,357 runs from 664 games, including 100 hundreds as well. Tendulkar's tally of 15921 Test runs remains the most in Test cricket and so does his total of 18426 runs in ODIs. He is also the only player to have played 200 Test matches as well as the first player ever to score a double century in ODI cricket. Tendulkar has also won 15 Man of the Series awards and 62 Man of the Match awards in ODIs. Not only that, he has won a Man of the Match Award against every one of the ICC Full Members during his time. He also won the World Cup in 2011 at his home ground -- Wankhede Stadium. Following his achievements and contribution to the game, the Master Blaster was awarded the Bharat Ratna award in 2014. He remains the only sportsperson to date to receive India's highest civilian honour. Along with it, he also won the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan Awards.
