Azusa street revival prophecies
TEXT: ACTS 15: 14-18
(14) Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
(15) And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
(16) After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
(17) That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
(18) Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
KEY VERSE: ACTS 15: 18
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
There were spontaneous preaching and altar calls for salvation, sanctification and baptism of the Holy Spirit. The members of the mission never took an offering, but there was a receptacle near the door for anyone who wanted to support the revival. The core membership of the Azusa Street Mission was never more than 50–60 individuals, with hundreds if not thousands of people visiting or staying temporarily over the years. Thousands of individuals visited the mission in order to witness it firsthand. At the same time, thousands of people were leaving Azusa Street with intentions of evangelizing abroad. Other visitors left the revival to become missionaries in remote areas all over the world. So many missionaries went out from Azusa that within two years the movement had spread to over fifty nations.
When the This is a very famous prophecy, it was given during the Azusa Street Revival from which it gets its name. I am going to use it as an example of how we should view prophecy, as it is well-known and generally accepted. Now in the Bible there are prophecies that are certain to happen, such as those about Jesus’ First and Second Comings, although these have been misunderstood by many Jews (about Jesus’ First Coming) and many Christians (about Jesus’ Second Coming). But many prophecies in Scripture are conditional, and outcomes can be delayed or changed due to how people live before God. An example about this is how God delayed the exile of the nation of Judah until after Josiah’s lifetime because he had humbled himself before God (for the whole story see 2 Chronicles 34-35). Firstly, the simple fact that they are not in Scripture means that they are not inerrant. Part of the prophecy may be spot on, another part may not be. The emphasis may not be exactly right. If a prophecy involved a definite date or year it is false if it does not happen then it is a false prophecy, or that part concerning the date is false is it happens either later or earlier. (All the predictive words I have given which included years or referred to specific occurrences have happened.) Secondly, if we say that a prophecy is inevitable then we are misunderstanding how Christian prophecy works. To say somet Our team was gripped by the exhilarating statement in Charlie's dream that “the door of hope” connected with Duncan Campbell and the Hebrides Revival “is about to open!” This powerful move of God off the coast of Scotland in 1949-1952 was characterized by the fear of the Lord resting spontaneously upon entire regions, bringing conviction of sin and dramatic conversions. Men and women would fall into trances and be radically transformed by the depth of their revelation of God. According to Campbell, the revival that swept through the Isle of Lewis and the surrounding islands was birthed through the prayers of two elderly sisters, Peggy and Christine Smith. These two women happen to be the great aunts of President Donald J. Trump. They were given a promise of Isaiah 44:3, which kept them praying until their faith became sight. For I will pour water on the thirsty land .Azusa Street Prophecy – Certainty or Warning?
The Azusa Street Prophecy.
In the last days three things will befall the Great Pentecostal Movement:1. An overemphasis on power rather than righteousness;2. An overemphasis on praise to a God they no longer pray to;3. An overemphasis on the gifts of the Spirit, rather than the Lordship of Christ.
The question is this. Is what is talked of in this prophecy an absolute certainty, or is a warning of what we need to avoid, and deal with if it occurs?
So what of extra biblical prophecies?
And streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring,
And My blessing on your descendants; Isaiah 44:3
On the heels of Charlie Shamp’s dream, we were stunned to hear of another confirming encounter through Dutch Sheets’ Give Him 15 prayer devotional on February 10, 2021. Dutch shared a detailed account of a dream by Gina Gholston which is summarized below:
On 2/2/21 Gina dreamed she was standing with a man she did not recognize and together they were observing the United States of America. She could feel a strong anointing emanating from this man, which caused her to have an indescribable hope for the nation. They watched together as eagles, like warplanes, were flying across the country and releasing arrows into the land. The eagles were dripping wet from wells of revival that had suddenly been uncapped and were gushing water once again. The water was flammable, so everywhere the eagles flew they caused fires of revival to burst forth. Before long, it seemed as though all of America was burning with these holy fires.
